Sunday Funday

Hey Everyone!  Just wanted to send out an update..... although there really isn't much to report.  :)  I'm still unemployed and we still don't have an apartment.  (I'm failing miserably at my only two responsibilities!)  But, we did put an offer on an apartment so hopefully I will have some good news to report in the next few days.  We're having a really good time.  We've met a few people and are learning our way around the city.    I'm trying to be better about taking photos so you all can see what we have been up to.  We had a really fun day out yesterday and I took a couple of shots of our activities.  Jed booked our first proper afternoon tea at the Wollseley and it was really great.  You get all sorts of finger sandwiches and desert pastries.  Everything was so good!

Yes, that's milk in my tea.

Jed was going through baseball withdrawals so we found an American sports bar and went to watch the Cubs play the Braves.  Go Randy!

And then watched the Red Sox vs. Blue Jays.  Go Sox!

That's the Tower Bridge on the right.

More equally exciting posts to come! ;)  Hope you all are well!!

Paris: A poor man's Dallas, Georgia

Hi Everyone,
This is my first attempt at a blog, so no judgements!  I wanted to send along some pics of our 1st anniversary trip to Paris.  Let's see how this goes....

We took the high speed train from London to Paris.  It was SO easy and convenient!

Our hotel was right next to the Pantheon and when we arrived close to midnight, it was massive and looming over us in the dark.

This was our cute little room at the Hotel du Pantheon.

Saturday morning I took this shot of the hotel on the right and the Pantheon on the left.

After breakfast we went out and started our touring with le Jardin du Luxembourg.  It was beautiful!
We then walked along the Seine on our way to Notre Dame.

It was at Notre Dame that Jed was given the power to elevate....

We walked back along the Seine towards the Louvre.  The weather was amazing.

We were still really far from the Eiffel Tower.

I think I'm going to submit this to America's (shortest) Next Top Model...

We arrived at the beautiful Palais du Louvre.

They have some amazing statues..

(How ridiculously lanky does Jed look in this picture?  Freakish, right?)

We went down into the Louvre but decided to skip the lines and go to brunch at
Cafe Marly overlooking the courtyard.  Good decision!

Croque Madames, Champagne and Beer:  Breakfast of Champions.

After brunch we walked through the Jardins des Tuileries and all the way up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe.  We made a quick stop along the way to try the macaroons at Lauduree.

Rose Petal flavored Macaroon:  Not sure why we thought this wouldn't taste like perfume.

We were about to "frogger" across about 10 lanes of traffic when Jed saw a bus driver swoop his hand down in a wave motion. This must have been the international symbol for "use the tunnel under the road" because we understood him.

I think we spent exactly 1 minute at the Arc de Triomphe before heading off towards the Eiffel Tower.

Getting Closer!

Made it!

At this point our feet were killing us so we headed back to the hotel to relax and get ready for dinner.
One last picture before heading to Chez Julien.

We had amazing French fare for dinner then found a table outside at a cafe.  It was raining a little so we sat out under the awning and had coffee, beer and Creme Brulee.  Walked back to the hotel around midnight and passed Notre Dame along the way.  It was even more beautiful at night.

Sunday we had very little on our agenda.  One of my main goals for the trip was to find a delicious croissant.  I read about Pierre Herme and Arthur had recommended their macaroons so we headed out after breakfast.  Sadly, they were closed.  So we grabbed food at a cute place in the Latin Quarter called "Paul".  It was pretty good but I don't think we ever got out early enough to get amazing, fresh croissants.

Next up, we took the train to Monmartre and hiked up the many steps to Sacre Coeur. It is a beautiful huge church sitting up on a hill. From there you can see out all over Paris.

After Sacre Coeur we tried to see the Bastille but we couldn't find anything besides a monument.  Maybe the Bastille no longer exists?  We really don't know.

Here's how we spent the remainder of the day...

watching the Chelsea v. Manchester United "football" game.

On our way back to London we almost missed our train even though we got to the station an hour before.  We were sitting in the main terminal and didn't realize all of the trains were arrivals.  With about 10 minutes before our train was set to leave, we noticed departures were in a different area.  We sprinted up the stairs and cut all the people in the customs lines.  We made it to our seats about 2 minutes before they closed the doors.  So dumb.  Anyways, the train ended up being really fun because we shared a table with a family from New Zealand.  We ended up playing cards with the dad and two young sons who were both hysterical.

It was a great trip!!

We will send a blog soon with everything that is going on in London!

Love to all!!!
