Two Week Vacation Part 2: Cannes and Antibes

Monday, September 6, 2010:
We arrived in Cannes around 8:00 or 9:00pm Monday night.  We checked into Hotel Eden, which was surprisingly nice for the price.  Cannes is such a pretty little town.  It's really clean and well lit, with beautiful buildings everywhere.  The main streets are lined with designer shops: Cartier, Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, etc.  Obviously we didn't buy anything.  We went out the first night to grab a quick bite then decided to sit out on the boardwalk and open a bottle of Rose that we bought in Riez.  The boardwalk looks out over the water with all of the huge sailboats mooring.  We sat out watching people walk by until after Midnight.

The next morning it was rainy and overcast.  We went for a short jog on the boardwalk then grabbed coffee and looked at all of the celeb handprints that are on the boardwalk.  Hopefully the size is not accurate or Mel Gibson and I have the same baby hands.  Our hotel luckily had an indoor pool so we swam some laps before heading out for late lunch on the Rue d'Antibes.

We had amazing seafood pasta and kept eating so long that lunch somehow turned into dinner.  We wanted to watch some of the US Open so we found a great sports bar and went for Happy Hour.

When we left the bar we strolled around the main section of town.

We randomly walked up on the unveiling of a Gucci Speedboat.  Everyone was wearing formal dresses and tuxes within this velvet rope area.  We just stood outside the ropes and watched them unveil the boat.  It ended up being pretty awesome.

And then we found these cutout face things on the way back to the hotel and had to snap some pics...

The next morning we checked out of the hotel and headed towards Antibes.  We had Croque Madames at a cute outdoor restaurant and then headed for the beach.

After a couple of hours we decided to head out to our next destination.  But not before a quick impromptu photo shoot....

We left Antibes and headed toward Villefrance-Sur-Mer.  We didn't have any directions but knew it was somewhere between Nice and Monaco.  We ended up on a big highway and a toll booth attendant told us to take the exit for Monaco.  The roads were SO steep and the brakes on our rental car were making terrible grinding noises.  I just kept downshifting to avoid using the brakes.  As we came off the highway towards Monaco, we saw the most amazing view of the Mediterranean.  We were so high up and the mountains seemed to drop off into the ocean.  It was awesome.  We accidentally ended up in Monaco before finding our way to Villefranche.

Villefranche is so awesome that I have to devote an entire blog to it.  Standby...
